The Silent Night is a simple super 8 film experiment. The entry fee
is $35. Should you join us:
- You will be given ONE ROLL OF SUPER 8 FILM.
- You will be assigned ONE PIECE OF SILENT FILM SCORE.
- You will have TWO WEEKS TO SHOOT YOUR ROLL OF FILM
(Due October 1st).
Then on October 13th, we will gather as an
audience to watch the twenty films for the very first time.
What are the details of the screening?
There will be two screenings on October 13th, 2007, at 7:30pm
and 9pm.
Location: Artshare 801 E. 4th place. Los Angeles, CA 90031
After party: DJ drinks and dancing to break the silence.
How long is a roll of film? What type of film
is this?
You get one roll of super 8 black and white reversal film.
It's 50 feet long. It lasts 2:30 at 24fps or 3:20 at 18fps. You
will shoot everything with in-camera editing — you load it, you
shoot it, and you give it back to us to process. You won't know
how it'll turn out until October 13th at the screening.
What am I responsible for?
You are only responsible for shooting your film (if you need

We encourage creativity. Whatever you can capture in 2.5 minutes, we
want to see it. After you
shoot your film, we will take care of everything else (processing,
transferring, etc). The screening will be the first time any of the
filmmakers will see their films.
What about a soundtrack for my film?
Along with your 50 feet of super 8, you'll be given
a piece of silent film score. As you shoot, keep it in mind as much
or as little as you wish. There will be no sound other than this score.
What does my 35 dollar entry fee include? That
seems like a lot...
It's not a lot when you consider it covers your raw
film stock, processing, and transfer fees, as well as shipping and
handling, and your admission to the event. Plus you'll keep your
original film and you'll get a DVD of all the films from THE
SILENT NIGHT.
Why would I do this?
Because filmmaking is fun! Because you
can shoot one roll of super 8 film in 2 minutes or in 2 days. Because
shooting a film in such a short time is low commitment, and screening
it for the very first time with a live audience is big excitement!
And because it'll be a great opportunity to meet other filmmakers
and artists.
Why are you doing this?
Because filmmaking is fun! And because
Filly Film Cult is currently fundraising for The
Great Filly Film Cult Experiment. Proceeds raised at The Silent
Night will go towards TGFFCE.
If I sign up after the 20 filmmaking spots
are full, will I lose my entry fee?
This form will automatically close when we reach capacity, so
no worries.
What if I sign up for the event and have to
cancel later?
Because of the nature of this event, this is a non-refundable
fee. If you have to pull out of the event, think of your fee as a donation
to the Great Filly Film Cult Experiment, and know that we greatly appreciate
your generosity.
Will I own the rights to my film or will you?
You will. However, we will be putting your film on a compilation
DVD with the other films from the evening which we will then offer
for sale at the screening. You will receive a complimentary copy and
are welcome to buy additional copies, but you will not receive compensation
as a result of any use made of the DVD. If you have questions about
